چکیده

We consider a particle evolving according to a Markov motion in an absorbing medium. We analyze the long term behavior of the time at which the particle is killed and the distribution of the particle conditional upon survival. Under given regularity conditions, these quantities are characterized by the limiting distribution and the Lyapunov exponent of a nonlinear Feynman-Kac operator. *Correspondence: Pierre Del Moral, Laboratoire de Statistiques et Probabilites, Unite Mixte de Recherche CNRS, Universite Paul Sabatier, 118 route de Narbonne, 31062 Toulouse cedex, France; E-mail: [email protected]. Exponential mixing properties for time inhomogeneous diffusion processes with killing

We consider an elliptic and time-inhomogeneous diffusion process with timeperiodic coefficients evolving in a bounded domain of R with a smooth boundary. The process is killed when it hits the boundary of the domain (hard killing) or after an exponential time (soft killing) associated with some bounded rate function. The branching particle interpretation of the non absorbed diffusion again beha...

A Simple Particle Model for a System of Coupled Equations with Absorbing Collision Term

Abstract. We study a particle model for a simple system of partial differential equations describing, in dimension d ≥ 2, a two component mixture where light particles move in a medium of absorbing, fixed obstacles; the system consists in a transport and a reaction equation coupled through pure absorption collision terms. We consider a particle system where the obstacles, of radius ε, become in...

Critical behavior of a one-dimensional fixed-energy stochastic sandpile.

We study a one-dimensional fixed-energy version (that is, with no input or loss of particles) of Manna's stochastic sandpile model. The system has a continuous transition to an absorbing state at a critical value of the particle density, and exhibits the hallmarks of an absorbing-state phase transition, including finite-size scaling. Critical exponents are obtained from extensive simulations, w...

Phonons in two-dimensional colloidal crystals with bond-strength disorder.

We study phonon modes in two-dimensional colloidal crystals composed of soft microgel particles with hard polystyrene particle dopants distributed randomly on the triangular lattice. This experimental approach produces close-packed lattices of spheres with random bond strength disorder, i.e., the effective springs coupling nearest neighbors are very stiff, very soft, or of intermediate stiffnes...

Mie theory for light scattering by a spherical particle in an absorbing medium.

Analytic equations are developed for the single-scattering properties of a spherical particle embedded in an absorbing medium, which include absorption, scattering, extinction efficiencies, the scattering phase function, and the asymmetry factor. We derive absorption and scattering efficiencies by using the near field at the surface of the particle, which avoids difficulty in obtaining the exti...
